Copy Editor, Proofreader and Writer (AP style)

I will work with you to tighten, clarify, and strengthen your content while preserving your voice and optimizing for SEO. I will also write original, on-brand content that will engage your readers. I have more than 15 years of professional experience, a bachelor's degree in journalism, and a minor in creative writing. I will approach your projects with journalistic discipline and ethics combined with fluency in creative writing techniques. For work that requires SEO optimization, I use best practices that will help your content rank well in search organically. I don't resort to cheap tactics like keyword-stuffing and content "spinning." As a journalist by nature my highest priority is top-quality, ethically created content. And that's the key to ranking well in the SERPs. What I've been writing and editing recently: • Onsite content, including long-form assets and digital PR, guest posts, and case studies. I know how to engage the reader, answer search intent, and call to action. • Web copy, optimized for SEO. • Video scripts. • Articles. • Newsletter and social media content, including LinkedIn articles. • Long-form and short-form fiction. • Copy for display advertisements. You'll be working with me directly on everything (I'm solo; not an agency). But for years, I've led a hand-picked team of subject matter experts and copywriters to create digital assets that drive traffic and rank well in search. Earlier in my career, I led an award-winning newsroom to produce weekly coverage of crime, politics, and events. Next, I was the final stamp on all external publications for the largest government agency in my state. There, I also led a small team of writers and photographers to produce a monthly internal publication. For editing work, here's my process: 1. You share your draft with me as a Google or Word doc. 2. I give it a pass for developmental edits as well as proofreading/line editing. On request, I will track my changes so you can accept or reject each one individually. I will also leave an "overall feedback" breakdown at the top of the document. 3. Once you've reviewed your new draft, I'll make any changes needed. 4. What follows (and the timeline) depends on the unique needs of your content. Links to recent projects available on request. If you have a project in mind, let's talk.
